Sweet Family Farewell

As May drew to an end, we faced a long six week separation. Normally, that would be no sweat for us as an AF couple. But that is a very long time for James and Kaden to be apart. Thankfully, I would not have to be a single parent for very long. We decided this was a perfect opportunity for me to make an extended trip back to the States and let Kaden spend some quality time with some of his grandparents.

Before we took off, we planned a fun family weekend. We ate delicious meals, played at home, and even took Kaden to the park. There's not much for infants to do on the playgrounds here on base, but his daddy took him down the slide a few times. He liked it while he was on James' lap, but freaked out when we sat him down on the slide on his own. (That is pretty typical behavior whenever he's thrown into a new situation.)

The day before we left, I hired a babysitter so James and I could go out for an early anniversary celebration. We had lunch at our favorite Thai restaurant, and then went to see the new X-Men movie at a Korean theater. We shared a bucket of caramel popcorn as a dessert. Meal and a movie is our favorite date and it was nice to go out for that long without the baby.

We were all a little melancholy as we packed and prepared to say good bye. But even in the frenzy of last minute preparations, we were able to treasure up some sweet moments. James climbed into our bed and read Kaden his favorite book while I finished working. I couldn't help jumping in and enjoying a few family snuggles too before we put the little guy to bed. Thankfully, Kaden is too young to really understand what's going on. But still - any time apart is hard and we had to make the best of it while we were still together.
